Kinship Care

Family and Children’s Services is responsible for the safety and protection of children and there are times when children cannot remain with their immediate family because of protection concerns.  When decisions are made for children to be brought into care our agency works with the child’s extended family and the community to establish a permanent home for a child in need of protection.  Living with the extended family or kin is sometimes the best option to ensure a child is in a safe and nurturing home.

There are two types of family care options:

Kinship Service allows our agency to provide services that ensure a child’s safety in circumstances where the child is not in the care of an agency and remains within his/her family or community.

Kinship Care is provided for children who are in the care of our agency and are placed with a member of their extended family or community.  Kinship families must be willing to complete a home study.
