Family and Children's Services - Independent Planning Program

The Independence Planning Program is a free program available to youth aged 13 to 17 years who are in residential care. This program is designed to develop the skills and attitudes necessary for independent living.

The Independence Planning Coordinator is available on an individual basis or in a group setting to support adolescents to make a successful transition from residential care to independent living and to facilitate youths' development of life skills.

The Program will provide training for youths in developing the skills and attitudes necessary for independent living and to enter into the workforce. The Co-ordinator will deliver life skills group learning opportunities and promote healthy life style and decision-making via individual or group counseling.

Independence Planning Groups are offered from September to June while individual sessions are available for adolescents that would feel more comfortable meeting with a worker on an individual basis to work on certain topics.

Summer Programs run during the months of July and August and are open to adolescents as part of their life skills training. The adolescents that would like to be involved in the summer program will be assigned responsibilities during scheduled activities that will enhance their independent living skills. Through the summer program, adolescents will assist in coordination of activities such as swimming, camping, horseback riding, picnics and much more.

Once an initial intake has been completed your referral will be directed to the Independent Planning Coordinator at Family and Children's Services.
