Philosophy

Our service delivery philosophy is based on:

  • an integrated approach based on a holistic method of service and delivery which considers the need of the client within the context of the family and the community;
  • the recognition of the need for, and the coordination of, a multiplicity of disciplines for serving people;
  • the belief that services to children, adolescents and families should promote a health environment to permit optimal growth; and
  • the understanding that through prevention and education we can improve the capacity of individuals, groups, communities, and societies to adapt to, and shape the environment.

In it's efforts to protect children from abuse and neglect, Child Welfare Services attempts to resolve the problems in the family that leads to these situations. Where the child's safety cannot be protected, the Agency will provide whatever services are necessary to ensure the child's safety, including removing the child from the care of the parents. The children may be placed with extended family members with the permission of the parents, or in foster homes that provide a safe home for the child.
